These are the character designs produced in Ian's session were we produced several iterations of the same character. I produced the more realistic design with the brown jacket but I soon learned that this design was not fit for purpose. The model was very detailed and would take a long time to animate rendering it useless. I also learned that the amount of fingers is very important when animating a character, since the hand is very complex to draw. So Ian suggested to consider using 4 fingers instead of 5 and tone down the detail which I did in the drawing of the hunter with the handgun.
As an alternative design I went for the early childhood approach ( pre- scholar) and used geometric shapes and pure colors. I avoided detail as much as I could giving my design a more Bob the Builder look. The edges are still very sharp but i will try my hand again at an alternative design at a later date.
The rig diagram indicates How I would rig a model of the designed character. I focused on economy since the character used is meant for tv production. What this means for me as a designer is that the turn around is very fast, the budget is low when compared to big blockbuster productions and my designs have to be mindful of this.
And finally the photo shop montage is a a combination of images. They depict actor Willem Defoe hiking, a shot gun , a hunting knife and a photo of Korean pop singer G Dragon from the band Big Bang whose wardrobe designs inspired me for this module( more on that later).
